There's a difference between Swedish candy and Swedish-candy-that-has-been-sitting-in-a-Nevada-warehouse-for-a-year. The candy is technically the same product; the experience is meaningfully different. Here's what actually happens between the maker and your kitchen drawer when you order from a direct-from-Sweden importer like Pickmix.
Day 0: you place the order
Order lands in our system in Hjo. Most of our catalogue is held in inventory we picked up from the makers within the last 30-45 days — fresh stock, current production runs, not aged warehouse inventory. The exception is the occasional limited-edition or seasonal product, which we'll only stock if it's recent.
Days 1-2: pick, pack, label
Our team picks each bag by hand. The candy goes into a padded mailer or box depending on size — fragile items like chocolate get bubble-wrap, temperature-sensitive items get extra insulation in summer. Label goes on, the parcel goes to the postal carrier, you get a tracking number by email.
We pack 6 days a week. Orders placed before noon CET typically ship the same day. Orders placed Friday evening ship Monday morning.
Days 3-5: Sweden to your country
From Hjo, the parcel goes through Stockholm or Gothenburg to the international postal network. For US-bound parcels, that means a hub-to-hub flight (typically into Newark, Chicago or LAX), customs clearance, and then handoff to USPS for last-mile delivery. For European destinations, it's a much shorter overland route via DHL or PostNord partners.

Days 5-8: your kitchen drawer
Parcel lands. You open it. The candy was made in Sweden, picked up by us within the last six weeks, packed within the week, and is now in your hand. The best-before dates on every bag are typically 9-15 months out — actual fresh stock, not the 'best before next month' product you sometimes get from import retailers.

Why the shipping time actually matters
Most US-based Swedish candy importers operate on a pallet-import model: a wholesaler buys a few tons from Sweden, ships it to a US warehouse, and sells it down over the following 12-18 months. By the time you buy a bag from the back of that pallet, the candy is 12+ months old. It's still safe; it's still recognisably the product. But the texture has shifted, the flavour has flattened slightly, and the magic has gone out a little.
Direct-from-Sweden shipping adds 5-8 days to delivery time and trades that for fresh stock. For most products that's a fair trade — for foam-and-chew candies it's a major one.
