What Squashies are
Swizzels' soft version of the hard Drumstick lolly: the same raspberry-and-milk flavour, made squashy enough to press flat between finger and thumb and let spring back. The texture is the entire proposition — they are lighter and more aerated than a gummy, and a bag goes faster than it has any right to.
British, on a Swedish candy site
They are British, not Swedish, and we say so rather than letting the shelf imply otherwise. They earned their place in the Swedish pick & mix bowl the honest way — by being the thing people reach for, decade after decade. Which bag
Drumstick is the original and the sweetest. Sour Cherry & Apple is the one to hand somebody who claims not to like sour — it is mild enough to change their mind. Bubblegum and Strawberry & Cream sit in between, and the double lolly bags are the same flavours on a stick.
How they sit next to Swedish candy
Softer than a Swedish foam piece and sweeter than most of what BUBS makes, with none of the two-layer construction that Swedish candy is built around. That makes them a good contrast rather than a substitute — a bag of Squashies in an order otherwise full of skulls and marshmallow cars gives you something to reach for when the sour gets too much.
They are also the safest thing on the site to hand a child who has never eaten Nordic candy, which is not nothing when the alternative is explaining salmiak.
